It's simple. When you have the chat loaded on the main page, you see the sidebox to the right of it? Along the right hand side of that sidebox is a little bump/arrow which you click on to collapse it. If you do that, you will be able to see the area you type in the chat box. Chances are you see it now, it's just the width of a few letters. This happens when you guys are running 800x60 or 1024x768 modes.
Once you click the side of the sidebox, it makes the forums widescreen.
